Care Leaver: A young person who has been looked after for at least 13 weeks since the age of 14 - Children (Leaving Care) Act 2000. Care Experienced: This term refers to anyone who has been, or is currently, in care. This care may have been provided in many different settings, including living with foster carers; living in a residential children's home; being looked after at home under a supervision order; living with friends or relatives in kinship care. Estranged: Estranged students are those aged 18 to 24 who are not communicating with either of their parents due to an irreconcilable breakdown in the relationship with them. Caring Responsibility: A student (up to the age of 25) who provides unpaid care to a family member or friend who could not cope without your support. This may be due to illness, disability, a mental health issue, or substance misuse.

Teacher Reference
We will contact a member of staff at your school to request a reference in support of your application.

Please provide the details of a teacher at your current school who is willing to verify your application and write a reference in support of your application. If your application is successful, this will be our school contact for your time at Queen Mary.



Please note the following points:
  • We will contact teachers after the application deadline, so please do not worry if your teacher has not heard anything from us before then.
  • We will only contact your teacher if you have been shortlisted for a place on the programme. Once we receive the reference and the teacher confirms that the student is suitable for the programme, then we will send out an offer to the student.
